Badminton club the Community Challenge Champions

The first ever Banham Community Centre Challenge on 15th September turned out to be a terrific success. Eight teams competed at bowls, boule, darts, five-a-side football, badminton, volleyball and tabletennis. With the badminton club clear winners at the end, and with fair weather and fair play the key ingredients, the afternoon proved to be fun entertainment for the whole family. With a bouncy castle for the children (and the childish), pole jousting and a BBQ on hand, it proved to be a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
We'll definitely do it again next year!
Meet our new mascot

This month we introduce our new website mascot. He's taken from a design by Lisa Seager and, hopefully, brightens the site up a bit. The message we hope he conveys with his smile and wide eyes is:
"Come and have fun at the Community Centre. It's here for everyone!" .
Banham Community Centre, what does it do exactly?
It's a Centre in Banham for the use of the whole Community. There's something for everyone. Here are some examples:
- Mondays we've got badminton for the juniors at 6-00pm and then for adults at 8-30pm, All ages, all standards.
- Tuesdays there's an aerobics exercise class at 7-30pm. Keep fit, get fit, pretend to get fit or just have a boogie in a leotard. This is followed by badminton at 8-30pm and league dominoes in the club room (normally noisier than the live music!)
- Wednesdays what about the Indoor Bowls Club? Or maybe our darts league in the club room.
- Thursdays we've more badminton and our ace pool league in the club bar (pool that is, not badders).
- Fridays we have regular live music in the club room. Come and have a look at some great artists.
- Saturdays there's loads of activities going on throughout the year in the club room and bands, gigs and more in the main hall. Brilliant live music.
- On Sundays squeeze out the last drops of the weekend with some badminton or chill out and get ready for the Monday onslaught.
Every night and Saturday lunchtime, the club bar is open from 7-11pm (10-30pm on a Sunday), serving a great range beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks.

Supporting up and coming artists

We try to cater for all tastes where music is concerned with something for everyone. Most weekends we have live music in the club bar or main hall with hugely talented local bands providing top notch entertainment.
Last year we tried something new. We gave a bunch of local lads, AKA Wendy House, their debut outing in the Club. With Jason on lead guitars, Russel on rythm and Phil in superb voice, they did not disappoint. Few in the audience could believe this was there first outing as they performed many original songs.
The Sounds Live Showcase gave us a small taster of some talented youngsters but was not as well supported as we'd hoped. youth project to promote young local talent, and some of them are just too good We will try again so come and take a look and you won't be disappointed. Where did Oasis or Toploader start?
Why become a member?
The social club is provided for the enjoyment of the whole community and everyone is equally welcome, members, non-members, young and old. So why have membership?
Partly it's legal, the Banham Community Centre Association is a registered charity. It is necessary for the Social Club to have a separate committee and for the Club to be licenced. There are also a couple of slot machines in the club that can only be used by members.
We charge only £5 per year for membership and this entitles you to free or reduced entry to many club events. It's not a huge amount of money but it does enable us to budget a little better and hopefully in the future will enable us to invest in much needed improvements to the club.
